Six Interior Painting Tips

Painting your home may seem like an easy task, but there are many things you should keep in mind during your planning process. We understand that your home is probably one of your biggest investments, and we want to make sure you are well-prepared for your interior painting project before you spend more time and effort than necessary.

Invest in Quality

When investing in your home, purchase paint that is from a reliable brand. Cheaper paint puts you at a disadvantage, as it may not last as long as higher quality paints. Not to mention, you might need to use more of it since bargain paints often require multiple layers of coating.

Avoid Drying Out

As you begin to paint the interior of your home, your paint will become more empty. When it’s half empty, there’s more air circulating through it, which will dry it out faster. To keep it from drying out completely, you may place plastic wrap underneath the lid before sealing it tightly.

No Overlapping

Ever wondered why your paint coats aren’t matching and it looks like there’s stripes? You might be painting over painted areas that have already begun to dry. One of the ways you can prevent this from occurring is by maintaining a wet edge as you paint the full height of the wall. Once that is complete, you will move over slightly and paint over the wet edge to ensure no stripes appear. Continue doing this until the entire wall is painted.

Stir Often

Whenever we are tasked with painting often, we are also told to stir the paint. But what does this do? Stirring the paint often will keep the ingredients from separating, which will keep it more uniform and even when applying it to the walls. Using a paint stirrer with holes in it will allow it to aerate the paint can more evenly. If you are provided with a stirrer that doesn’t have holes, try drilling some holes into it and using it to evenly mix the paint.

Use Newer Tape, Avoid Older Ones

Using newer paint tape is highly advised because older ones tend to stick and tear more easily. This can make it difficult to peel away from the walls. If you only have old painter’s tape around, trying warming it up in the microwave for about 10 seconds before applying it. If this still doesn’t work, then it may be time to invest in newer paint tape.

Hire Professional Painters

If you have a bigger space to paint or have a tight schedule, hiring professional interior painters will ensure the appearance of your space looks as good as new. Having expert painters will save you more time and money in the long run. You won’t have to worry about researching which paint brands are more reliable or how much paint you will need, as experienced painters will take care of your project from start to finish.
